SURF SPORTS

WHAT IS SURF SPORTS ABOUT?

Surf Sports is an integral part of Surf Life Saving. First introduced by the movement as a tool to develop and retain surf lifesavers, these outcomes remain outputs of surf sports today with members participating in a variety of events that promote a healthy lifestyle, comradery and sportsmanship.

Each season there are  variety of surf sports events and development programs for our members. These events cater for under 8’s right through to 70+ years across a range of disciplines. These include:

Beach - Beach events are held in the sand and include sprints, relays, flags and runs.

Surf Ski - Board and ski events include single surf ski races, double surf ski races, surf board races and relays.

IRB - Inflatable rescue boat (IRB) competitions include rescues and relays.

R&R - The Rescue and Resuscitation (R&R) competition provides the opportunity for SLSA members to demonstrate some traditional rescue and resuscitation techniques used in Surf Life Saving.

Swim - Swimming ability is a prime factor in surf lifesaving. Swimming events have been designed to encourage members to keep fit for lifesaving duties.
