Competition & Carnivals

There are three Club Championship/Point Score sessions throughout the season for U8 to U14 age groups, where points are recorded for each child in each event, the best two point score days results will be used to award age champion. These point score days will also be used for team selections for carnivals.  U6 and U7 age groups also participate in point score days and are awarded place ribbons on the day, however these age groups are not awarded age championships......they're all “Champions”.

Participation

At the end of the season all children who attend 50% or more Nipper days will receive a participation trophy at the presentation night.

Inter-Club Competition

There are Nipper carnivals (inter-club competition) held at various beaches around the Central Coast during the season (October - March), and  usually held on weekends. Nipper carnivals have both individual and team events. While competitive, good sportsmanship, club representation and fun are the order of the day. Competitors and their families enjoy a great day (or two) representing Copacabana SLSC as a team! Carnivals are a great source of Club Spirit!

Copacabana SLSC must supply approximately 10-12 water safety officers per carnival, and one beach official for every seven competitors. Parents are encouraged to assist where possible. Age Manager and Official training courses are available for interested parents/guardians.

More information on events and rules can be obtained from www.surflifesaving.com.au

Clubs earn points from placings at carnivals and these go towards an annual Premiership. Winning clubs are awarded trophies or equipment at the end of the season. U6 and U7 age groups do not compete in carnivals. Where possible Nippers will still be held on carnival days for those age groups not involved and those who prefer not to compete.

You must inform your Age Manager (at least two weeks prior) if you're child wishes to compete at in a carnival, to allow for registration of the club competitors, selections of teams, allocation of officials and water safety personnel.  Contact your Age Manager or the Junior Team Manager for more information.

Competition Officials
Every surf club is required to supply Competition Officials at carnivals.  Surf clubs are required to supply a certain amount of officials according to the number of competitors competing.  Please contact your Age Manager if your interested in becoming a Competition Official.

Carnival Training
Training is held on Sunday (10.15 – 11.15am) after Nippers, and provides the opportunity to develop and improve competition skills. See the Surf Sports page of the website for more information. Competition training is not compulsory, however if a child wishes to attend a training session, they must first attend the 9:00am Surf Education session (normal Nippers session).

Nippers aged U8 to U14 who wish to compete at carnivals (even in beach events) are also required to do further proficiency testing at the beach. They must complete an open water swim, this will be done during Nippers on Sundays.

Costs of Carnival Participation

Entry fees for local nipper carnivals are included in your membership. If you wish to compete at the State Age Championships, entry fees are payable. Nippers are to advise their Age Managers two weeks before each carnival if they wish to compete.
